FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between the person seeking help and myself, and is suitable for anyone wishing to develop greater self-awareness, self-acceptance and a deeper understanding of their relationship with others, both past and present.

When struggling with a specific issue, such as the breakdown of a relationship, a bereavement or problems in the workplace, time-limited psychotherapy can make a real difference because the focus is current in your life. The way I work is informed by the same psychodynamic theories which have underpinned my many years of offering open-ended psychotherapy – the difference is we will identify a specific focus whilst always working towards our agreed end date.

This theory recognises that your feelings of distress and problems in the present may have origins within your early life experiences. Psychodynamic psychotherapy helps you to understand and recognise the connections between past and present conflicts and feelings. This can help you to discover new ways forward and of improving your relationships with others.

This session will last 50 minutes and you will have the opportunity to share what is worrying you. I won't judge or criticise you and everything we talk about will be confidential. We will look at the difficulties you are experiencing and, should you decide to work with me, identify a focus for our work based on your priorities. We will agree the number of sessions, a regular time to meet and discuss the fee. The establishment of regular sessions is important to facilitate and give momentum to the therapeutic process.
Most people find that regular contact provides a sense of security and continuity whilst they are working through their difficulties.

When we meet we will decide this together and keep it under review.

It is important to set up and keep to a regular weekly time slot. Sessions are 50 minutes long.

I primarily practise face to face however online sessions can be accommodated.

Fees for all sessions are £75. You will be expected to pay for missed or cancelled sessions, except for those cancelled by me.
